PRM: Finished

In the last week, I have finally finished up my internship project. I've eidted the last podcasts and the interactive map is completed. But of course, unexpected things are still coming in. The car's owner received more objects from the resident of the Dorgans' home in Bradford. Therefore, the exhibit will have more souvenirs, maps, menus, and pictures for the visitors to see. So exciting, but so stressful.

And so I'll begin work on my reflection paper this week. I discovered that museum work requires a lot of flexibility: some things will take much more time than you initially thought, and some of your plans may not work out the way you had originally thought. But it all comes together in the end. As long as you work hard to create a project that makes your visitors more informed than when they arrived, you know you've done a good job. I've also enjoyed the collaborative element of this exhibit. Working closely with the Buttes and with Ron Dupree have made me appreciate shared inquiry that much more. I want to work in an environment that encourages working with non-professionals to create an exhibit that will make history fun for the public.

I'm eager to get back to Chicago and start up the school year. I've already started research on my seminar paper, and I've taken an internship with the Evanston History Center in their archives. I'm excited by this prospect as it will broaden my experience and allow for a bit more variation in my day. This semester will be a busy one, but I know it will be worth the extra effort.
